"LET'S TALK ABOUT..." 50 years of Hip Hop: America's Native Tongue

Hip hop is a cultural and artistic movement that was created by African Americans, Latino Americans and Caribbean Americans in the Bronx, New York City. Hip hop culture is characterized by four key elements: rapping, DJing and turntablism, breakdancing, and graffiti. The fifth element is “knowledge of self”. In that spirit, Hip Hop has always been a voice of resistance. Join A Long Talk creator, Kyle Williams, along with Global Hip Hop Cultural Ambassador & Peabody award winning recording artist, Gabriel “Asheru” Benn, as they break down the role that Hip Hop has played in the current social justice and liberation movement in America. (Note: We’ve added a special repeat performance at noon and at 8 pm.)
