Movie Mixer: “Till”

Join us for the discussion. Till is a 2022 American biographical drama film directed by Chinonye Chukwu and written by Michael Reilly, Keith Beauchamp, and Chukwu, and produced by Beauchamp, Reilly, and Whoopi Goldberg. It is based on the true story of Mamie Till-Bradley, who became an educator and activist in the Civil Rights Movement after the murder of her 14-year-old son Emmett in 1955. Emmett, was beaten severely, shot dead then thrown into the Tallahatchie River with a 75 lb. cotton gin fan tied around his neck with barbed wire by white supremacists for whistling at a white woman, while visiting his cousins in Money, Mississippi. Mamie Till insisted that the casket containing her son's brutalized body be left open to show the nation what they had done to him. The film is told entirely from her perspective.

Emmett Till's murder is heard, but not shown in the film.
